Argument breaks out, a beverage is thrown, hilarity ensues!

Come in! Have a margarita or root beer? How about some fresh trout? :)

I saw it on the news tonight, and it's not quite right.... I know players can get lost in the heat of the moment, but the fans should know better. The retard who threw the cup was probably drunk, and stupid. But apparently there's been a few fights in different sports at the pro and college levels in the last week or so. Sportsmanship isn't what it used to be....

"Never, Never, Never Quit" -Winston Churchill

Definately. Players should leave the fans to wreak havoc on their own. Take Boston, for example. The Sox stayed clear during the street riots.

I miss the days of sportsmanship. Games are all about physical improvement, mastery of technique, and honor among two combatants. (all games are based on confrontation and survival)

These days, they go for the first two just fine.. but that last one is slowly eroding away as the first two take ultimate priority. *sighs and puts his eyeglasses down*

I remember why Ambush Bug joined the DTM, and the XMEN - Honor and the fact that he can kick butt in Tribes more than he could with all that stuff he's gotta deal with.

Those knuckleheads could learn a lot from a Bug.
"Death is not the end."-Ravok

From what i seen, the fan or fans should be hit hard as well. He or they are the ones that started all of the mayhem. Dont get me wrong, i in no way cadone what the NBA player or players did, but the fan or fans of Detriot need to be put in their place.

I personally have heard bad things about Detroit fans and wouldnt attend a sporting event there.
<img src="http://www.teamwidowmakers.com/Mega/Sig ...
<img src="http://miniprofile.xfire.com/MegaDeath7 ...
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p090.ezboard.com/bxmenclan.showU ... 0 at: 11/21/04 11:02 pm

As I understand it, it started when one player belted another after a foul.

That's no excuse for throwing something from the stands and starting a riot, though. Who, exactly, is THAT going to help?

More than once now this has happened where a fan screws with a player and the player loses it...The player should be above it but the fan should not be allowed to make a complete jack-ass out of himself and do things like that.

I think that they should let the players and fans carry weapons. That would make sports so much better.
<img src="http://home.comcast.net/~richardwentwor ...

I think those fans that threw stuff should be prosecuted. I mean throwing chairs, beer, bottles, food, etc. at players is basically assault/battery.

I can understand taunts, and I can understand getting pissed. But fans throwing stuff at people? Come on!

Oh and confronting a player during a scuffle? WTF? Do you want to get beat?

As much as I like to have a few beers watching sports as the next guy, I really think it should be curbed while at a sporting event because people are stupid and don't know when to quit and then wind up in altercations with players. Basketball is the biggest culprit IMO, because of the proximity to the players the fans have. at least in Baseball, football and hockey there's at least some distance between them to prevent things from happening.

"Never, Never, Never Quit" -Winston Churchill

We pay these guys how much money to be a buncha babies??

What a buncha whiners. There was one time, in college, some guy insulted me - and I lost it. I walked up to him, and pushed him. After the class, we met outside and duked it out.

Then, he got taken out of that semester of school. I felt so stupid. Once I realized how idiotic it all was, and how he lost a semester - *shakes his head* What the heck was the value of stupid insult?

Since then, I learned my lesson. It just isn't worth getting all puffed up. If a single foul calls the game, then the game was so close that victory wasn't assured; and the refs were looking for someone to get underhanded to win - and they'd blow the whistle on Dixie.

Sometimes, a game is just badly reffed. The refs are really off, and even they have to get together and powow about stuff.

Still, what I don't like is that if you enter a pro level, and aren't willing to do your best to help the team win; then the team mechanics break down. If its all about ME, then my game means more than the team's game. That is what I am seeing too much of with players like Bryant.

Shaq and Bryant would have been an outstanding one-two punch, but what happened? The team didn't support itself, and in the final games, a more cohesive unit gave them a run for their money.

Team cohesion is so basic and necessary for these games. Tennis, Pingpong, Track and Field, do that sort of stuff if you want all the pressure and moves to be on you all the time. But even the best basketball star needs the support of his mates if he wants to succeed.

"Death is not the end."-Ravok

That's true, Rav. They can take the insults, but when it comes to stuff being thrown at them, I would disagree.

I would not expect someone to be playing basketball and put their life on the line. Firefighting, soldiering, or policing, yes, but not playing basketball. Getting splashed with something is one thing, but... like during some Yankees games, beer bottles end up on the field and the plastic ones when they're full would hurt just as much as glass. Also, there are plenty of chairs to throw.... or souvenirs handed out prior to the game.

I can't see any salary justifying putting your wellbeing on the line. You do that kind of thing because you want to. And I don't think that their high salaries justify that.

As an analogy, you don't see a patent lawyer worried about his safety and trying a case. You see them charging for what they think their time and effort is worth. Just think if you took a patent lawyer and said that she/he should expect things to be thrown at them when a verdict doesn't go her/his way. That amount that the lawyer would charge would skyrocket.

Or take engineering... I can make just as much money as an engineer sitting at a desk and doing paperwork as I can being out on the flight line. My desk isn't so hazardous that I have to get hazardous duty pay, and most of the flight line isn't either. But if I am going to work in a hazardous situation, I expect to be compensated for it. Since I'm rarely in close proximity to gaseous chlorine (it's 200 feet away), or in close proximity to hydrazine or ammonia (200 feet and 500 feet), or even in close proximity to highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide which will start a fire when it comes in contact with organics, I don't expect to receive hazardous duty pay.

I make good money (63k... and I'll likely get a pay raise this year... but most of it goes to taxes. ). I know that there is a small chance that a plane could accidentally drop a bomb on the buildings on base, that there is a greater chance of a chemical explosion, there is the slight chance that I could get irradiated by antennas or other things, and that there is a much greater chance of a chemical spill or leak. That's just as a sports player knows that it's possible that a fan will throw something at them. But in both cases we don't seek compensation for what is possible that can be dangerous.

If someone started throwing bottles and chairs towards a lawyer or politician, the target would likely try to defend themselves, maybe physically (especially if they don't have a bodyguard retinue), and we wouldn't have a "Lawyer kicks fan's @$!" headlines. The reason we're seeing it with basketball players is because they're celebrities, and this was all being filmed. Not that I agree with this fight at all, but it would be televised differently if it had been one guy on the street assaulting another guy on the street with a bottle.
