SH: mortars can go up to several miles if the conditions are just right. There are plans for making longer range mortars as well. I've seen numbers quoted as high as 7 or 8 miles. But with those ranges, you're better off with heavier artillery at this point in time.
Mortars have a high arcing trajectory though. Makes it relatively straightforward for defensive weapons to counter them.
Something like THEL will definitely be used for point defense kinds of roles in the future.
