I screwed up, and gave you some wrong information about shutter speed and focal length.
If shooting a 300mm, you need to have a shutter speed of at least 1/300sec else the image will appear out of focus.
But the mirror lock up is always a good idea. Just remember you have to press the shutter button twice.
Sorry for my confusion, I had it screwed up with something else.
