Ok, I've heard about mind-mapping before but didn't really understand it. I had a class a few weeks ago at work where we touched on it and so I have now messed around with it a bit and found it to be an interesting tool. I downloaded a program called XMind but there are others (see wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mind_mapping_software ).
Mind mapping is a more right-brained approach to taking notes or generally writing down information. You can do it with paper easily but using software lets you rearrange your relationships between ideas, format it better, etc.
I can really see it being useful for creating a story/article/presentation/academic paper. I used it with my boss after the class during a discussion on organizing our wiki knowledge base, and he really liked it.
