Frenzy! Panic! Woe!

Argh. How does stuff like this happen?

Friday evening when I turned on my comp, I tried to run windows update. It died. Huh? And it wouldn't keep ezboard cookies. So I tried lots of things. Clear the internet cache, for starters, and kill all those little programs that IE is nice enough to download for you. Nope. Uninstall/Reinstall IE? Nope. With a sense of impending doom, I tried to download my latest bank statements. Nope. Ack.

Not much else was behaving oddly, though. I was contemplating reinstalling the OS sometime, if I couldn't get this worked out. I was making no headway. I ran a full ad-aware scan on Friday, found and killed a few things, but didn't fix the problem. I'd run a full virus scan on Thursday night, and found nothing, though now Norton was advising me that my virus subscription had expired (it hasn't).

Anyone beginning to put it together yet? We've seen this before...

Finally I checked the logs in my firewall. The dates all said 2025. When I finally put that together in my head, and reset my system clock to the correct year, things were fine and dandy again.

DOH!

XMEN member
Card-carrying DTM
OKL Fish-napper

Though a program be but three lines long, someday it will have to be maintained.
The Tao of Programming
