New wheels

Post by XMEN Gambit »

A couple of weeks ago my car had a little argument with a truck belonging to another commuter. (My fault entirely.) Since the Sunbird has 110k on it, I'd been thinking about swapping it out anyway, especially since my left knee was wearing out from all the clutch work in Dallas traffic. So I started scanning the ads in earnest, and eventually found this little item:

<img src="http://www.xmenclan.org/images/gambit/e ...

<img src="http://www.xmenclan.org/images/gambit/e ...

It's an '01 Escort ZX2 with 30k miles.

* Note: BR had replied to my original post, which I had to delete because of bad HTML errors. Sorry, BR. *

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub141.ezboard.com/bxmenclan.sho ... ambit>XMEN Gambit at: 2/17/04 10:10 pm

Nice, newer than my car. :P

We've got two Ford Escorts at work ('91 & '92), each with over 200k miles and still going strong. They're also pretty quick for economy cars.

I've wisened up a tad and decided not to get another car until I have my school loans paid. My car works... it just needs new oil, coolant flush, suspension work, steering work, dent removal, and a repaint. (BTW, today is my car's 19th birthday!)

*edit* I was wondering where my other post went... but w/ the problem fixed it serves no purpose. :P
COLORS!
Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub141.ezboard.com/bxmenclan.sho ... ckRider at: 2/18/04 9:29 am

It's quite comfy, power everything, radio/tape/cd changer, etc. It was very inexpensive, because it was wrecked and repaired - that front corner closest to the camera was smashed in.
It's fairly peppy, but the little four-banger gets noisy around 70 (and 3000 RPM). But it's pretty nice for an economy car.

XMEN member
Card-carrying DTM
OKL Fish-napper

Though a program be but three lines long, someday it will have to be maintained.
The Tao of Programming

You should drive my MR2 once... you have to turn the radio up when you get on the highway. Then again my car's so light at the front end that it's not so comfortable to drive fast. If you think it gets loud at 3k RPM... try 7k (My engine is right behind the passenger seat w/ the tranny on my side, so it gets loud!)

One question... does it have those annoying seatbelts where the top slides foreward when you open the door? Those things always smack me in the back of the head. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:">
COLORS!

I wouldn't mind test-driving a mid-engine, but I don't think I want to rely on one for a daily commute.

Nope on the seat belts.

Nice car Gambino, glad to see you get a reliable set of wheels for those long commutes...

BTW, is that your neighbor's Christmas lights still up????

Go over there and whack him on the head and tell him to get'em down.

ITIMAN

I only use my radio in rush hour and on long commutes. That 1.6L DOHC engine is sounds better than any radio. :P

Also, I think my gas mileage drops from 30 to 20 when I go from 2k RPMs to 4k RPMs (50 to 70 mph in 5th).

Gambit, the main downside to a mid-engine layout seems to be lack of storage. I think I've got 5 cu ft in the back and a little over 1 cu ft under the hood. (i.e. my golf clubs in the back and my book bag under the hood w/ spare tire) The engine compartment is a little cramped w/ transverse engine and tranmission. I've had no reliability problems beyond what you'd expect from a nearly 20 year old car. It is a Toyota after all. (With nearly 160k miles at that.)

I've got another couple months to finish my school loans and then I'm saving for a S1 roadster. Assuming I don't lose my job I'll be placing my order around August. The only debate is BRG/titanium or yellow (or even yellow/titanium).

Smaller, faster, and more like a slot car. :P (and I think it looks good even though no one else seems to)
Oh and Mav, no radio on this car.
COLORS!

Heh, those are indeed Christmas lights. The people across the street could use a smack also. One still has her wreath up and the other still has his christmas lights up guess he wants them up for a while since he put them on the week of christmas even if he never did turn them on after putting them up .
<a href="http://www.thzclan.com/cam/index.php?zo ...
