Cool article on ZDNet on the workings of Google. If you haven't read it yet, do so, especially if you're familiar with data centers at all. The numbers are incredible.

Wow! Over 30 clusters with over a Petabyte of storage each!!!

Mind boggling. Hard drive failure rates actually mean something to these guys.

Hammer, each item in the list below is approximately 1000 times larger than the previous item. I say approximately because a kilobyte is actually 1024 bytes, etc.

byte -> kilobyte -> megabyte -> gigabyte -> terabyte -> petabyte

So,
byte =1
kilo = 1,000
mega= 1,000,000
giga= 1,000,000,000
tera = 1,000,000,000,000
peta = 1,000,000,000,000,000

*edited - left out giga! Silly me... *
