Stallman calls for free BIOS support, and your help.

Richard Stallman, the outspoken visionary/crackpot behind the FSF, has written a call to action. He says that a PC's BIOS is starting to cross the line between a ROM that is effectively hardware and an actual program that can and should be open source. He'd like you to add the question of whether or not a motherboard/chipset manufacturer supports these efforts to your purchasing decisions, and to let the manufacturers know this. And if you'd be so kind as to copy the Free Software Foundation, they're compiling lists and preparing awards for manufacturers that cooperate.

BTW, he says AMD has been much more cooperative than Intel. And if you figure out how to flash the BIOS in a notebook, they'd really like to know.
