Announcement
here.
On the plus side,
Renegades is starting over with the Torque engine. It's not bad now, but they're planning to really spiff it up. They need help, too. Check their site for info.
Hey, Ambush Bug - they really need a backstory talent. Since you've done it before, they might really value your contribution....

I have to admit, I haven't played T:V in a long while, but I had heard runors of the upcoming patch, and I was legitamately excited, and was considering firing it up again, if nothing else than to cheack it out. Reading this makes me a very angry, and I hope that VU Games dies a horrible death in the near future. ever sinve Vivensi acquired Sierra, then closed Dynamix, VU has done nothing but release garbage games from once hot, vibrant properties with huge communities behind them, and they've essentially alienated all the players and consumers out there by thier lack of support.
There's a poster in the linked thread that pretty much says it all:
I challenge the assertion that ANY patch was in the works from anyone. At least no patch was being provided for by the dev team (IG). Several sources have stated that the Dev team was NEVER contracted to provide another patch. Perhaps some yahoo up at VUG QA was tweaking some maps to get rid of the more obvious holes and exploits, and throwing in PB in the D/L, but as far as an honest to goodness patch? Forget it.
Cheating is rampant in pub games, whether people know it or not. The amount of people caught using an older version of an aimbot has been more than 250 - and as I said, that is with an older version of an aimbot, that is being detected on a handful of servers that are running anti-cheat protection that the community made. Lord knows how many people are using more up to date aimbots (or other hacks) that aren't being detected, or simply playing on servers that are not running the cheat protection in the first place.
And the community has addressed the maps problem. An official patch that included those map fixes being done by the community would've been nice, since it would force everyone (the few still playing this game) to have the same maps, but even then, it wasn't neccessary.
So, even if it was just PB, that would've been helpful.
But nooooo....VUG can't even bother to try and help with the rampant cheating going on - rampant cheating based on code that should've been fixed two years ago when the dev team was working on the game. The guy that made the most widely used aimbot for T:V used the same exact exploit that was in the Unreal engine from ages ago. Another exploit using the web admin function is also a well known code bug from the same engine, and should've been fixed during development. It was widely publicized. This spells incompetence.
It's disgusting how little the consumers are valued. The company has such a poor reputation - and this isn't helping at all. There are a lot of Tribes players that haven't bought the game simply because of the bugs, cheating, and exploits - and now they never will because of the shortsightedness of a few guys sitting around a water cooler in suits.
VUG deserves every ounce of anger being directed towards them for this boondoggle.
RIP Tribes franchise... You've been a good friend to us all.

Before swearing off VUG entirely, as numerous posters on those forums have done, you may want to remember that Blizzard (as in Warcraft), as well as at least part of Valve, is under the VUG umbrella.
Not that that makes me like them. I don't like any of the big game corps; it's studios that deserve the fanbois.

While that is all true, Blizzard seems to operate as their own company, deciding what they want to do, and The VU Games lgo is nowhere on the box, or in the manual for WoW... which makes me feel a little better. It's not even so much that I hate VU Games the corporation, I know the parent company drives what kind of support is given to a title, and what happens with it. VUG is a little premature in their writing off T:V. VUG has been giving the SS:2845 devs a great deal of support and leeway with their project, and it's encouraging to see from a large corporation. (Granted, they are working for free...) I think VUG really wrote Tribes off as a viable property after the release of T2... It was only crafty presentation work of the designers and brand Manager to get VUG to sign the checks to make a new title... I think it was wrong for them to license the unreal engine to make this one of a kind game, and I think it was partly responsible for its downfall.
But hey - That's just me.

I read a post on TWL that VUG will in fact, or say they will, finish the patch and release it. No date on the release and it's apparetnyl only fixing map bugs as well as adding PB which the community could have done. I think they are doing this to save face, but it also seems a bit to late.

Here is a message I left on the offical boards. I feel it is just sharp enough for my feelings to show without going overboard into an all out flame. Hopefully it won't get deleted
Ok I’ve been in bed sick since last Tuesday, so I just got the news. I am sad to say this is the straw that broke the camels back. Perhaps I am grumpy from being sick all week, but I am pretty sure my feelings are legit. In the past I have defended T:V and VUG. This betrayal of my trust is an unforgivable sin.
It is now my FIRM belief that VUG is to incompetent to remain in the game market. Time after time, decision after decision they have shown they are either unwilling or unable to make good on the promises they have made. I suggest therefore that VUG draws from its French connections and surrender. Pack up shop and leave the industry all together. VUG is the worst thing that has happened to the game industry in the past few years, it is time to rid the industry of this cancer.
This isn’t a flame, or insult, this is an honest to goodness suggestion of how you, VUG, can rectify the problem. Face it nearly everything you touch gets corrupted. There is but one solution then. Leave the industry. Sell off the rights you own to companies who are able to do their jobs correctly. Then slink away to some place where we will never hear of you again.
Perhaps it would be different it you were simply EVIL rather then incompetent. I could deal with an evil company, heck I would relish dealing with an evil company (rubs hands together and laughs evilly.) However the sad truth is known, you are unable to fulfil your function. Ergo there is but one course of action open to you, Sell your holdings to people who are able to fulfil the functions then leave the industry totally.
Conversely I will give you one other option as a way out. Perhaps its because I want to believe you can change, perhaps its because I am a nice guy deep down. Perhaps its just because I want to see you squirm. But whatever my motivations are they are my own. So here it is, your one other option. All you have to do is answer 1 question. Then stick to that answer when the time comes.
What and How are you going to change the way you run your business to eliminate fiascos like T:V in the future?
Now listen carefully, I personally am over T:V I realize it is probably acting as a money sink and that’s why you canceled the patch. I, unlike many others realize that you are a business who needs to make money. So lets face it you screwed up big time with T:V because now you have a huge load of bad PR, you made very little if any money and the customers are still not happy. So what are you going to do in the future to avoid releasing another flop?
Why do you owe me these answers? Well truthfully you don’t, you could blow me off and ignore my questions and hope I go away. But if it is true that you do read these messages, and if its true that you want to have an open dialog, then I offer it to you. I gave you two choices, to pack up and leave, or to lay out your future plan to avoid problems in the future. If you don’t want to lay your plan out, that’s fine as well just say you have one, and what the plan addresses. I look forward to hearing from a representative soon.

Ren has actually gone over to Legends to help them develop one game. I've downloaded it but have yet to install and play it.
Oh a side note, I have loaded up T:V the past few days and have actually enjoyed pubbing it. Last night I went on to the [KGB] server and had a real good time, played four maps. I actually ran into people who knew me from T1 and T2... was nice.
If anyone still loads it up let me know. PM me, email me or look for me in game as TsN|Wildchild...

I play it on and off. I don't have a lot of time for gaming anymore. So I don't notice all the intricasies. I still get MA's tho so I must be doing something right.

Soo what im getting from reading this post is that vug completely F**ked up T:V by canceling the patch ?
What was going to be in the patch making it such a devestation when they canceled it ?
Lol and did I waste my money by buying it ?

No patch means "no support." As in VUG doesn't care what happens with the game - if you bought it they've got your money.
Whether you wasted your money depends on whether and how much you enjoyed playing the game. Since there's no support, there will likely not be a long-lasting community around the game like T1 and T2. You can still play single-player and pub, which is really all that was claimed on the box, but don't expect much in the way of mods or future improvements.

I liked the game at first but it just did not have staying power....T2 you had to learn a whole bunch and it was hard at first but eventually everyone learned...
T:V was just poorly made, I hate it when a company "thinks" for you and tries to do something to get more folks involved....
Here is a smart quote...Lets build T:V off of old buggy code like UT and see if that works!!!...It looks like folks are cheating alot and who wants to play then....
Geez...I have not been playing many games lately but this is sad....
