The sad state of acedemia today
Well, an example of it, anyway. You may have heard about these MIT students who wrote a simple program to generate bogus research papers, and one was actually accepted for publication. Anyone reading it, however, would instantly be able to tell it was a fake.

I actually read the paper today. It's hilarious! It's got all kinds of things in there that make absolutely no sense.
If I remember correctly, the organization that the paper was submitted to is of the lower quality variety. But anyone remotely connected to science (especially physics), math, or computer science would have caught the paper right off. The title kind of gives it away if you look up the definitions of the words.
Still, it's pretty funny.
