And it was awful!
Not the movie, but watching everything fall apart like we knew it had to. Sigh. Kind of like Titanic, where you KNOW the darn ship's going to sink...
In all, I think it was up to first trilogy standards of dialog, writing, and acting, as opposed to the first two which were not. I think it would be difficult to walk out very disappointed if you've seen those two. Unless you were hoping for Jar-Jar to die a horribly gruesome death! There were things to dislike without looking too hard, as well as plenty to like. No real surprises.
The implicit warning about watching democracy slide into tyranny on pretext of security is of course a valid political point. And the personal warning about obsession is likewise valid.

I'll concede that the original trilogy wasn't all that great (except for the novelty of a "space drama"); but with the budget for the last three movies they should have been better. Also, I think the central character (Skywalker) was played by the weekest actor (whoever he is).
(I'll also have to admit that part of my dislike for the movie came from being forced into the end of the first row instead of my usual 1/2 way up... which was taken by a party reservation.)

I disliked it for one simple reason... Vader went to the darkside because he was a dumbass. I really hated seeing the cool character of Vader evolve from a whiney, dumbass. It could be the horrible acting from Christensen, probably was, but every time Anakin was on screen i just wanted the movie to end. The rest of the cast was great... but whoever cast that numbnut should be blackballed. "You will never cast in this town again!"
