I wanted to let you guys know about this.

GameJackal is a program that creates no-cd "profiles" for your games. So, you use this little utility, create your profile for a game using the original CD, then you can put the CD up and forget about it (though you may have to re-create a profile after a patch).

It doesn't work on every game, but it's doing fine with the ones I've tried so far. It's not a freebie, but there's a 30-day demo I'm trying out now. Right now, the thing costs $12. Includes free upgrades.

OK, stupid question time... why not use Alcohol or Daemon Tools? Does this utility rip the discs for you, or have some other automation that makes it more accessible?

It's pretty accessible - the UI is very simple. I've not used Alc or DT, but GJ profiles are very small, not disc images like some tools I've used. You do a full install of the game, as normal, and then GJ (when activated) stores only the verification that's read off the disc, whatever that may be.
