Cable modem died

So, yesterday afternoon a thunderstorm rolled thru and we had a split-second power outage, after which my internet wasn't working. No biggie, I thought, lightning musta hit one of their nodes.

Nope.

Closer examination showed that my cable modem wasn't even registering a LAN link light, so that was bad news. So I ran up to Fry's and got a new D-Link model, hooked it up, and called Roadrunner tech support. After I 1) got through the line on hold (25 mins), and 2) got them to understand I'd bought the thing at Fry's and so no, it's not in your equipment database, and 3) waited another 20 mins or so for their system to update, I was back online.

Not too bad, considering. New model is a lot smaller, and likely draws less power, than the old sharkfin modem I've been using for the past 6 years or so.

My family went through a storm like that a few years back in Rowlett. It took out my Dads motherboard and the router. Glad to hear nothing expensive got taken out.
