Come in! Have a margarita or root beer? How about some fresh trout? :)

Tax time

Post by XMEN Gambit »

Well, January is behind us, and having paid my whopping property taxes for the year I'm now installing TurboTax. Hopefully will be able to get a little of that back from the Feds.

Bleh.

At least there's no income tax in Texas.

Yet.

I just finished the taxes for my wife and I. I originally didn't have her info... and I was getting a 6000 dollar refund. Then I put my wife's W-2 info in, and realized that she hadn't switched her withholding over to show that we were married, but withholding at the higher single rate. So... now the refund is 1700 dollars - still a plus, but not what I was expecting.

Our federal tax system really is as screwed up as everyone thinks.

Ah well... next year I get to put down that I have a dependent.

Gotta go buy a new edition of Turbotax. My 2005 edition will not let me go any further.

With a new wife, a house mortgage, and 2 dependents I hope my return this year is nice.

Asha - was the baby born in January or December? If it was December, you can claim the baby for the whole year. :D My big things this year are getting married, mortgage interest, and student loan interest.. and the wife has gone back to school in '07, so we get the education credit too. Still waiting on a couple things.. Then I'm taking mine in to get done... WAY too many forms and such this year.

Yeah. I saw what would happen to our taxes if we had Nathan before the end of the year. It was great. But I still didn't realize that my wife hadn't fixed her deductions.

Ah well, maybe next year we'll get that huge refund. Then we can seriously think about saving for a house. For when we move back north, of course!
