Come in! Have a margarita or root beer? How about some fresh trout? :)

Some good news... maybe...

I am trying to verify your eligibility as a transfer eligible for a
position you applied for with DCMA Aeronautical Systems Division,
Seattle, WA
This is with an agency that I had applied to last year. It's promising that they want my personnel file, but I'm trying to NOT get excited until I hear of an offer for a transfer.

It's good timing since I am finishing up the ground test documentation, and then some of the test documentation for the flight tests. After that, it's more or less let the contractors do their work until they get to shootdown. All I know is that any hiccups or hangups will not be on our end (government).

Good for you man, I hope they give you a firm offer for transfer. :D I, however am still waiting on the FnAA to get off their asses and do something.

I will say this: 1 in 5 controllers have left the FAA in the last 2 years, yet they claim to have enough people in the pipeline to make up for the impending mass exodus? Not with the Academy running classes half full and taking a year to even interview applicants.... I swear some days I should have my head examined to want to be an Air Traffic Controller...

Funny thing....our company is trying to find ways to keep older people with company "tribal" knowledge. You know the information about older systems and how things can be done? But they continue to trim our workforce and us older folk are getting real tired of having to do the work of 3 co-workers that have gone. My department is now half the size it was 4 years ago, but we have increased our workstation and server count by 1/3 during that time.

Frankly we are being burnt out. We ask for help but no one seems to care anymore. All they want is to get their bonuses based on how much they come under budget.

Sounds like it's time to polish off the resume and post it online. Without revealing your personal info, of course (like monster.com). That way, at least you have an idea of what's out there, which companies are looking, and have things current for you exit.

I see the same thing on the government side, Ice. It's even worse when you take into account that congress controls your budget and they seem to think that cutting just a bit more each year will trim the excess fat. Eventually you have to get rid of folks. And they don't seem to mind losing talent if upper management can keep a bigger bonus.

Well, they made their offer.

Two things:

It's a pay decrease because of the change in locality adjustment (19% vs. 24%). But Washington has no state income tax, so there's some adjustment back in my favor. And I'm transfering INTO the GS system, which means that there are specific set rules that must be observed for salaries in transfers.

The wife told me: "You've been waiting for 3 years for a job you were excited about, and that they were making an offer on. Why not take it?"

So, I think I'm going to take it. Now, my home office just has to release me from my current assignment, and I can transfer. :D

:D

Maybe after dropping the hour-plus one-way commute, I'll be able to do more gaming. :D

Then again, no matter what I end up doing back up in the Seattle area, I'll still miss Edwards. The wife and I saw a thing on the history channel tonight, on strange weapons, and we both said, "We'll be sad when we see things on TV that have Edwards in them."

This was after I we saw some ABL stuff and I told her which parts I worked on and what was what. :(

It really is for the best though.
