Okay, I just loaded up Tribes 2 on my son's machine. Works fine. I also downloaded the multi-player patch so that he can play on-line. When I apply the patch the game stops working. Thoughts?

You can always try running T2 in compatibility mode to WinXP or 98...

Hmm. If it IS Vista, and compatibility mode doesn't work, you could give this a try:

I was talking with Gryph, and he was saying the shortcut and such as well as the installer need to be run in Administrator mode. I was having an issue running Planetside on my Vista Laptop. Between that and Compatibility mode, it 'should' work..

Getting Tribes 2 up and Running
As you know Tribes 2 is still alive and kicking with a very dedicated community, this is one of my efforts to give back to the game that I love.. Tribes 2 of course.

Unfortunately, at this point, getting Tribes to run is a chore, but definitely worth it. Hopefully this will make the process less of a chore. So I hope this guide helps everyone!

Installing and Downloading Game
First things first you need to install the client if you don't have the cd no problem below are links to download the client:

Tribes 2 Bouncer mirror
Okay, now that you have the client downloaded, go ahead and install the Tribes 2 client.

Updating Tribes 2
Now, you need to install the latest update to Tribes 2, the links to the patch can be found below. Note: If you have the GameSpy Installer you do not need to patch the game, you can tell if you have it if the file is named tribes2_gsi.exe

Sierra Mirror
Fileplanet Mirror Registration Required
Update Errors you may run into
When installing the patch you may see a message stating: The file C:\Dynamix\Tribes2\Readme.txt is not a valid previous version and could not be upgraded here is the screenshot of this error:

The first thought that may pop in your head is I can just delete that file. Unfortunately that won't help it will give you a new error illustrated below:

Here is how you fix it download this readme.txt file I have zipped up for you and make it replace your current readme.txt file http://guygalluzzo.com/files/tribes2/re ... atefix.rar. Just put in in your C:\Dynamix\Tribes2 folder.

Installing Defense Turret
Defense Turrent is an anti-cheat file required to play on some servers such as the <=RD=> Server you can download it from here dt.exe

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sierra Update Bypass
Now, here comes the fun part, the Sierra updater tells you that there is a newer version, but it is not available for download, illustrated below:

To fix this, either download Defense Turret(Defense Turret is a third party executable that is used as anticheat and required by twl, and most ladders) which is a good idea, because some servers require that it be downloaded and run. Or you can use the shortcut trick illustrated below:

Tribes 2's shortcut on your desktop is set to load the sierra updater as you know its broken, so lets make your shorcut just load up tribes 2's online client.

To do this you right click your shortcut and go to properties you will see something like this:

As you can see the shortcut is set to load sierraup.exe so what we need to do is delete that and replace it with tribes2.exe -online here is a picture for reference:

Unhandled Exceptions
Tribes is infamous for the horrid Unhandled Exception many things can trigger them, its always best to clear your .DSO files after every play session. There are also scripts that do this for you such as Absynthes' DSO killer and Uberguy's DSO killer

Keeping up-to-date with Graphics Drivers
Sometimes after all these steps Tribes will have an Unhandled Exception, one thing to try and make this stop is upgrade your video card drivers, you can download the newest drivers for Nvidia here, and ATi here

Compatability in Vista
For Windows Vista users, right click your Tribes 2 icon, and go to properties and under compatability check run as administrator. This should make Tribes 2 run on vista.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How to connect to a NOLOGIN enabled server
Due to the new road block that has come up with the Authentication server it has become necessary to use the Lan Client for Tribes 2.

The Shortcut to make Tribes 2 go into LAN/Soloplay is illustrated below:

Tribes 2 Shortcut fix

Defense Turret Shortcut fix

Manually adding IPs into your server browser
Now once you load this up you can press insert in the server menu to enter IPs manually this also applies to the multiplayer client when the Authentication server is up. Illustration Below:

Make sure before you hit Insert after clicking into the server list, or the Dialogue will not pop up.

Scripts
Scripts allow you to add features to Tribes that may not come stock, or enhance features that do come with the stock game. Running too many scripts can cause you to have an Unhandled Exception if you run into this issue, try removing 1 script at a time until you stop getting UEs. Unfortunately there is no known way to get passed these limits. You can find
