Windows 7 ....so far so good

The update from Vista Ultimate 64 to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 was perfect. Almost no intervention from me.

I just had to uninstall one incompatible antispyware program that it identified and it continued.

So far it is completely compatible with my games that I have tried so far. The interface is really not that hugely different.

So go forth and buy it!

No reason for me to preorder, theyre not giving a price-cut on the OEM versions. I am NOT playing with the mess that is an OS upgrade.

XP-to-Vista was an OS upgrade. Vista-to-Win7 is more like a big service pack that includes some UI changes.

Seriously, what's different between Vista and Win7, other than the interface? Anything that will affect the average user?

some of the benchmarks are better, the resource footprint is drastically smaller, and boot times are way better than vista.

So, in short, they've optimized it, then slapped a new label and UI on it so they could charge you more for the "new" OS and forget about that nasty ol' Vista PR?

I never got vista. It's XP/Ubuntu for me right now. Will move everything over to a xen platform when I get my Win 7 installation.

I bought my notebook too soon, wish i could've gotten the Win7 upgrade for free.. Not real big into spending a boatload of cash on an OS right now..

Based on startup and shutdown times?

Maybe you should switch to Linux, some of those will boot in under 10 seconds.
