Rogue and I took the kids over to Dallas last weekend (11/14) to meet Brandon Sanderson and Harriet McDougal (Robert Jordan's widow). And pick up a copy of Book 12 of the Wheel of Time, of course, and get it signed. We also got signed copies of Elantris (Sanderson's first published novel) and Ender's Game, which Harriet edited.

I'm almost finished reading it, BTW, and it's good. Much faster pacing than most of the others, which is a good thing since we still have to have 2 more books to tie up all the loose ends!! Anyway, here's a few photos of the event:

Brandon spoke for a while on his background and how he arrived at this point. Harriet did a reading from the book. There was a Q&A and then hours of signing. :)

I agree the new book is good. I read all of Sanderson's other books (except the Alcatraz ones which the library didn't have) this fall to get a feel for him in preparation for his WoT work. I can definitely tell some of the parts that are his; for example a lot of the Mat parts didn't feel quite right. Not bad, just not the same as Jordan did him. Sanderson engages in a lot more overt humor. And the tighter pacing is welcome. This felt about right, the way he's wrapping up the various fractured plotlines. And gives clues about what's to come.

Incidentally, if you're going to read Sanderson's work like me, I like the order I did it which is NOT the order he wrote them. The man comes up with some incredibly different, detailed magic systems. I read them in this order:

Warbreaker
Elantris
Mistborn Trilogy (Mistborn, Well of Ascension, Hero of Ages)
