Direct connect two comps?
Ok!<br><br>I have two computers, one connects to the internet through "GASP" 56k and the other does not. <br><br>I have 75 feet of lan cable with a crossover adapter on one end. <br><br>Now, I started buy running the wizard on my comp, (winXP on both) using this comp connects to internet. Then I made the disk, and run it in my 2nd comp. And I was able to share the iNet conection for awhile, but no file transfer. In the process of trying to figure out what to do to get the file tranfer (shared files) to show up on the two I lost the shared iNet connection. <br><br>Sooooo I was told it can be done without a router/hub but its easier with one. I think its only because of some software that comes with the hub. <br><br>Any thoughts? <p><table border="2" bordercolor="#420042" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center"><head><link REL=STYLESHEET HREF="http://www.thzclan.com/jester/jessig.css" TYPE="text/css"></head><tr><td><a href="http://www.thzclan.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.thzclan.com/jester/THZjester1a.jpg" width="240" height="240" border="0"></a></td><td><a href="http://www.thzclan.com/cam" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.thzclan.com/jester/cam/ccam.jpg" width="320" height="240" border="0"></a></td></tr><tr><td colspan="2" align="center" bgcolor="#000000" id="jessig"><a href="mailto:jester@thzclan.com">THZ*Jester[DTM]</a><br>Cerberus of <a href="http://www.thzclan.com" target="_blank">The Hounds of Zeus</a><br>Professional Hitman for <a href="http://www.xmenclan.org" target="_blank">The XMEN</a><br>Evil App Admin for the <a href="http://www.dragontalonmercs.com" target="_blank">Dragon Talon Mercenaries</a><br><a href="http://12.229.123.86:8000/listen.pls">Battle Ground Radio</a></td></tr></table></p><i></i>

Re: Direct connect two comps?
I am kinda fuzzy on what you are doing. Your using a network inteface card in each machine and using the crossover cable to connect the two right? Then you are sharing your modem with with the other machine?<br><br>If so this is what I would recommend.<br><br>First of all you need to make sure that both of them have a common IP address scheme assigned to the NIC. I use 100.1.1.10 for one and then 100.1.1.20 on the other, with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 for both. Make sure that they are both on the same workgroup name also. <br><br>Ok, now they can see each other, but they will not show up as an icon until you share a drive. Under XP the default share name is always a problem for me because of some inherent security setting. I set up a new shared drive. You will now be able to share or read files from that system.<br><br>Hope that helps.<br><br> <p><table border="0"><tr><td><embed align="left" src="http://www.thzclan.com/avatars/ezice.swf" menu="false" quality="high" bgcolor="#000000" width="217" height="166" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ... <td><table border="0" style='Filter: Shadow(Color=#BB1403,Direction=255)'><tr><td><span class='usertitle'>XMEN Iceman [DTM]<br>Founder and Leader of the Base Tribes XMEN Clan<br>Proud member of the Dragon Talon Mercenaries teamplayers Guild<br>Citizen of New Fenecia<br><br>"You weren't much of a challenge" - T2 bot after killing Iceman<br><br>- click on avatar for links - no, not sausage links!</span></td></tr></table></td></tr></table></p><i>Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub3.ezboard.com/uxmengambit.sho ... ge=EN>XMEN Gambit</A> <IMG SRC="http://www.xmenclan.org/images/x.gif" BORDER=0> at: 5/17/02 12:10:12 pm<br></i>

Here is a great site on setting up file sharing on XP:<!--EZCODE AUTOLINK START--><a href="http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expe ... <!--EZCODE AUTOLINK END--><br><br>Also here:<br><!--EZCODE AUTOLINK START--><a href="http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sha ... <!--EZCODE AUTOLINK END--><br><br>I forgot to add that you will have to "Enable File Sharing" on the system also. See about it in the second article.<br><br><br> <p><table border="0"><tr><td><embed align="left" src="http://www.thzclan.com/avatars/ezice.swf" menu="false" quality="high" bgcolor="#000000" width="217" height="166" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ... <td><table border="0" style='Filter: Shadow(Color=#BB1403,Direction=255)'><tr><td><span class='usertitle'>XMEN Iceman [DTM]<br>Founder and Leader of the Base Tribes XMEN Clan<br>Proud member of the Dragon Talon Mercenaries teamplayers Guild<br>Citizen of New Fenecia<br><br>"You weren't much of a challenge" - T2 bot after killing Iceman<br><br>- click on avatar for links - no, not sausage links!</span></td></tr></table></td></tr></table></p><i></i>
