I think you have a spyware problem. Run ad-aware.
To check out and possibly stop programs from loading at run-time, go to Start->Run and type in "msconfig" to run the config program. It'll show you pretty much all the proggies that run on startup, whether from registry or services or whatever.

yeah, spyware big time there sharp. Run Adaware and Spybot S&D. And run those on a regular basis, and it'll eliminate a lot of your troubles, and you'll get some system resources back.

On a somewhat-related note:
http://internet.newsforge.com/article.p ... 9&from=rss
Thompson, however, said some typical spyware vectors may be open for Firefox, too. To infect and run on machines, for example, much of today's spyware either talks directly via port 80, or inserts itself as a Layered Service Provider (LSP), "which will nail Firefox too," Thompson said.
The expert also said with increased spyware competition, which he is seeing already, anything is possible. Thompson said while Firefox and other "non-IE" browsers avoid exploits, ActiveX control issues and browser helper object (BHO) issues, the alternatives are not necessarily immune to keyloggers, LSP injectors, remote administration tools, and adware that is "invited in."

hmm damn...
and btw on a sidenote
I've ran Ad-aware and Spybot Search and Destroy numerous times and Firefox still wont run ...
Do ya think that either of those arent up to date, or no "cure" has been found for the new spyware ?

Is firefox recognized by your firewall or proxy server (if you have one)?

Quite possible, Sharp, but there's also a strong likelihood that what you've caught can't be cleaned while the infected OS is running. You can install another Windows OS alongside your first, and then use it to run your antivirus and antispyware software.
There's a way you can do this from a Knoppix live CD, too, if I can find the link....
Ah, here it is.

Glad to hear it Sharp.
Sometimes you get hit by a vulnerability, and the next patch fixes it.
