OK, I just need to know a normal set up for all of the cable connections I have a floppy, 20G HD, CD rom, DVD Rom, I have the floppy connected to the MB and currently have the same cable running to the back of the HD. HD jumper settings set to Master. I know I am missing an IDE cable for the CD and DVD, I have to go buy one.... What is the best way to set up the 4 pieces of Hardware? I know the floppy connects directly to the board but do I attach the same cable to the HD? Also, do I get one IDE cable and run a master connection to the (DVD)-and on the same cable se the CD Rom to slave ) to and run them to the 1st IDE port or just get two seperate cables and run them both seperately to the MB? Any suggestions? need more info? HELP!!! You need 2 IDE Cables. The Floppy cable is different from normal IDE Cables. The HDD Goes on 1 cable by itself in the Master IDE channel, and then you hook your DVD and CD-ROM Drives on the same chain as the Secondary IDE channel. I would set the DVD Drive as a master, and the CD-ROM as slave, unless you have a burner, and that should be the Master on the Secondary IDE Channel. I don't know how you managed to hook the Floppy cable onto your HDD, but take it off. Now. After you get that cable off, check whichever connectors weren't right and make sure you don't have any bent pins. OK just took that floppy cable off from the HD and it is no only connected to the MB. I bought the floppy from ebay and I have not used it yet. Hope it works, it is an old one.... OK, Thanks SH and Gambit. I will purchase two IDE cables and run the HD to the master IDE1 port and run a second IDE cable from IDE2 setting the DVD Rom as Master and the CD rom as slave. Will the IDE cables have the ability to connect more that one device or do I need to specifically look for a certain kind? Nope No Burner...This is a computer for my Father in law.... This is the computer I had at last years LAN party...my old one.... If I have more questions I will post more here. Thanks for quick responses... if the CDrom isn't a burner why are you putting it in? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH OK, I have the right cable for the IDE drive,.. I have the Windows 2000 cd in and the computer boots up, finds the IDE drives, pauses, then I get the message, "Primary hard disk fail" which I think is OK since nothing is on it. (Not formatted yet either.) I press F1 to continue and Windows 2000 loads some inital setup files then after about a minute, it says "Setup is starting windows 2000" blinks once, then goes back to the same screen "Setup is starting windows 2000...then just sits there.... any suggestions...Is my HD really dead? Hard Disk Fail is a bad, bad message. If the drive is ok but unformatted, you get a partition not found, or boot sector not found, or something along those lines. Are you sure you have the cable connected properly?
