Ok since I sent a real NASTY letter to our internet provider , we'vw had really good DL and Upload speeds .. Most of the time :/ Anyhow even since thats better our ping is still screwed So is there ANYTHING anyone can think of that could cause this ? Ive checked all eathernet cards to see if that it, and not sure how or if it could be router or eathernet converter for wireless. So any ideals would be appriciated <img src=

Run a traceroute to something. What that does is ping every server and router between you and the destination. By looking at where the numbers slow down, you can see where the problem lies.

To run a traceroute, you need to get to a DOS prompt. (Start->Run->"cmd"<ENTER> works on 2k and XP) Then type

tracert www.yahoo.com
or
tracert 64.48.179.30

That IP is for the fishplex, btw.

You'll see something like this:

Tracing route to
www.yahoo.akadns.net [64.58.76.223]over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <10 ms <10 ms <10 ms 10.1.1.99 2 10 ms 11 ms 10 ms 10.176.112.1 3 30 ms 50 ms 60 ms 12.244.112.1 4 10 ms 20 ms 20 ms 12.244.69.1 5 40 ms 40 ms 40 ms 12.244.73.2 6 20 ms 20 ms 10 ms gbr6-p80.dlstx.ip.att.net [12.123.17.30] 7 * * * Request timed out. 8 10 ms 40 ms 20 ms ggr1-p340.dlstx.ip.att.net [12.122.12.74](snip...)

Each server is pinged 3 times. The first column is the number of "hops" to get to that server, the next three are the ping times to the server, and the last number is the server identification if it has one and IP addy if not. You'll see a * if a server can't be pinged due to a timeout or firewall or whatever.

It won't fix your problem, but it will show you if it's yours, your providers, or beyond. Sometimes your provider can use it to fix the problem.
<img src="

Not many hops, which is good, but you have to do this when you're having problems if you want to identify the location of the problem.

BTW - you can cut & paste the results, you don't have to type them. Use the mouse to highlight the area you're interested in, then hit ENTER to copy it to the clipboard. Then you can paste it into the post with a CTRL-V, or right-click & "paste"

Hop #1, 10.1.1.99, is the router in your closet. Hop #2 is a router or server at your provider, txun.net. Notice the 201 ms ping there - one out of three is not an issue, but if you repeatedly see high pings (or *) there, it is. Hop #3 is probably AT&T's, because it's reasonably close to the address of hop #4 which definitely is, and AT&T is a huge enough company it probably has that whole range.

So basically, if the ping numbers start jumping higher at hop #2 or maybe #3, it's probably your provider's problem. If it's at hop #4 or beyond, there's nothing you can do about it.
<img src="

Ok so I've been checking off and on and heres what I've found. When our connection is bad its bad between my router and their server as high as 3500 just between us So that just proves it my service not the internet right ? the high number is just after my router pings..after that it generally doesn't ping the rest it times out..
<img src="

Yup. Send the trace output in an email to your provider to show you sorta know what you're talking about. When I do that I normally run a pair of "date" and "time" commands from the prompt before and after the trace.

Oh, and while the trace is timing out, if you want to interrupt it you can press CTRL-C.
<img src="
