Yep,
For the first time in like 10 years I dragged THE original Compaq 386 computer out of my closet to see if she was still alive. Back when a tech friend of mine gave it to me it was worth $12,000. It was the machine that Compaq first beat IBM to the marketplace with a new processor.

Here are the blazing specs:

Intel 386 processor, running at a blistering 16mhz.
4 meg of DRAM
40 megabyte WD hard drive
40 meg Irwin tape backup
1.2 meg 5.25inch floppy drive

She came up, asked for the setup floppy so she could reinitialize her bios, since the battery was low.

I ran a disk scan on her Stac'd/compressed hard drive, no errors. Booted up to Windows 3.1 just fine.

I expected her to cough and spit up...but she is running like a champ. Not bad for a computer almost 20 years old. They were sold back in 1986. I was selling them for CompuShop/Bell Atlantic.

I actually met Bill Gates and Rod Canion of Compaq at the 386 debut in Dallas. I didn't really realize at that time what would happen to them...but they both became icons of the industry. Boy if I had invested some money in both their companies at that time I would be in Aspen right now sipping my Grande Late'
