I don't know how many of you played the first one, but it was very much like a 3-d Diablo without the focus on demons & horror.
I've played the beta (you can download from gamespy), and this one is even more so. Environments and characters are VERY pretty, camera control like NWN, interesting fighting and magic, skill trees, special abilities, and enchantable items and "pets," like pack mules and elementals, that are customizable/enchantable. Even have item sets like Diablo. Voice acting at this point is fairly awful, IMO, but that's the only thing about it I really don't like. And you can turn the voices off.
