Arrrgh! I bought Dungeon Siege!
I didn't mean to. Really. I just played the demo because a guy at work said he did and liked it. So I downloaded it. And played it. And then I had to have it. Dunno why. *sniff*

Playing the game feels much like playing Diablo. Character development is more free-form; you always start with the same character attributes and become proficient at what you tend to use. 3 attributes (strength, dex, and intelligence) and 4 skills (melee, ranged, combat magic, nature magic).

Music is excellent. Graphics are quite good. Plot is linear and not outstanding. Replayability should be reasonable if you can tolerate the linearity. Haven't tried multiplayer yet. Looks like good editing tools. A dedicated gamer should be easily able to finish the single-player game within a week, judging from what I've seen so far.

Very easy to just sit down and have fun with.

XMEN member
Card-carrying DTM
OKL Fish-napper

Though a program be but three lines long,
someday it will have to be maintained.
- The Tao of Programming
Life is complex; it consists of real and imaginary parts.

what does "linearity" mean?

THZ*Jester[DTM]
Cerberus of The Hounds of Zeus
Professional Hitman for The XMEN
Evil App Admin for the Dragon Talon Mercenaries
Battle Ground Radio

Linearity (lin-ee-air-it-ee) - n[/n] : the property of having one dimension

Linear - like a line. One dimensional. In the case of a game, a straight plot path with few or no choices to make which will affect the outcome.

Generally speaking, because of time constraints, a game can be deeply plot-driven and linear (like the BG series) or shallow and very free-form, like, say, Daggerfall, but not both.

Dungeon Siege is neither, but it's fun to play any
XMEN member
Card-carrying DTM
OKL Fish-napper

Though a program be but three lines long,
someday it will have to be maintained.
- The Tao of Programming
Life is complex; it consists of real and imaginary parts.

Re: Arrrgh! I bought Dungeon Siege!
Got a copy myself, actually. I wouldn't mind hooking up for some MP action some weekend, just to see how it goes.

That said, I like the game, but I'm waiting for a patch--the framerate is just nuts. It'll dip down to 9 in some combat, and even in open area with no monsters and little in the way of foliage, it'll just hover at around 24 or so. I've been reading a bunch of reports from other folks, and this seems to be the case, regardless of CPU or graphics card. More than one guy with an Atlon XP 2000 and a GF4 is having similar framerates as I get.

Thankfully, FPS isn't quite as critical in this game as others, and it's still enjoyable. I'm not one for being a hard-core Diablo-type person, but I do like messing the formations and getting my party all set up to kick some ass. Having lots of fun with combat mages. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Member: DTM, XMEN
Professional Tank Driver
Card-carrying Base-Cracker
Ugly Son-Of-A-Gun

Bug's Tank Bumper Sticker:
"If you can read this, you're already street pizza."

Bug, I'm not having that problem at ALL. And I have a 1Ghz and GF2. Might it be a driver version? Either Via or nVidia?

Re: Arrrgh! I bought Dungeon Siege!
.wanna know somehting really weird? .my brother just got DS and he is running the same resolution and settings on a AMD1200/G2 MX32mb as me on my P41400/G2 GTS/PRO64mb and he gets better FPS by 5-15 on average....my computer runs everything else faster but that....
