I saw this game and thought, "3rd edition rules? Sweet!!" But my next round of thoughts on the storyline, gameplay, and mechanics of the game kept me away from my checkbook. The box advertises all it can for this game, which is the extraordinary graphics, and it keeps boasting about using the 3'ed ruleset. But that is it.

What's worse, the game has some serious bug problems. Its been known to crash OS's and force folks to rebuild their entire system. Its been out for less than a week... Yikes!!

As for storyline, the multi-user part of the game is a Diablo-esque random dungeon hack and slash. I keep hoping that an RPG would stress the "R" and have some serious roleplaying effort, rather than battle mechanics. I think computer systems are advanced enough that a great RPG with storyline, roleplaying options, and battle mechanics is not only possible, but *should* start popping up anyday now... <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /frown.gif ALT=":(">

If you were thinking of this game, or Arcanum, as I was, I suggest waiting for NeverWinter Nights. That game looks really promising. I might even start using NWN's dungeon mastering ideas to build my own RPG. So far, the most roleplaying I've done outside of throwing dice has come from MUDS. (Thanks, Red!!) And while I'd like to spend a monthly amount of cash for something akin to Ultima Online, I just can't.

So pocket your fifty bucks, and let's get together for NWN.

XMEN[Ravok-99]DTM

NWN!! NWN!!! NWN!!!

Me expects to be a big fan.

I'm thinking maybe we have rotating DM's. In addition to whatever play we have, everyone interested in DM-ing makes their own module, then the other guys go through together. Next month (or whatever) we all go through the next guy's module.

Personally, I'm kinda feeling the urge to write a book, so wouldn't it be cool to use our in-game exploits as part of the book, and/or book ideas to design the module?

XMEN member
Card-carrying DTM
OKL Fish-napper

Though a program be but three lines long,
someday it will have to be maintained.
- The Tao of Programming
Here, let me deal you in...

Gambit: The book that I'm currently working on (see the Prologue in the Tales of Battle forum) is tied in very closely to a series of D&D adventures that I ran around three years ago. I made my D&D campaign setting to be used as much for literature as much as for gaming. From what I've seen, books and roleplaying can go very well together.

(The biggest thing to remember is not to lead the player's around if your game is based on a book that you already have the ending for). <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

<img border="0" src="http://www.xmenclan.org/avatars/t2red.g ... >
RedSirus@

Dragon Talon Mercenary > <a href=http://server2.ezboard.com/bdragontalon ... >
DTM Community > <a href=http://pub18.ezboard.com/fdtmonlinecomm ... s>RedSirus' Reviews

Brainwashed Fishmonger > Forum ...

For this sort of thing, I think Tolkein's method works best.

Build your world, your mythology, your background. Fill it with interesting places and events in different timeframes.

Only THEN fit your story (or RPG characters) into it.
XMEN member
Card-carrying DTM
OKL Fish-napper

Though a program be but three lines long,
someday it will have to be maintained.
- The Tao of Programming
Here, let me deal you in...
