Stuff does happen on farms but not in schools. They should not have done it in front of the students. You dont go to school to see stuff like that, yes you read about it, but you dont need to see it. They took it too far in this case.

Down the road they will wonder why a kid is killing animals around the area and the BAM they will realize where it came from. Doesnt take much for some kids to follow adults actions.

Imho
<a href="http://www.thzclan.com/cam/index.php?zo ...

It was an agriculture (farming) class. Probably, though I'm guessing, a rural school. If you've got an animal on a farm that needs to be put down, you put it down, you don't call the vet and wait for hours while the poor thing suffers.

My take: this event happened in a high school and in an actual farming/ag class. Frankly, I don't see the point of the uproar.

Stang: I'll venture to say that the students did need to see it, since they were taking a class about farming. Better to teach them the correct method now, I say, than have them experiment later on their own farms.

Now that I think of it, the shovel-beheading is the exact same method I used when I was a kid and had to deal with the occaisional rattlesnake or water mossacins that ventured into the gardens of my mother and grandmother. Grab a couple of sticks, scoop the little bugger up, take him to soft ground, pin him down with the stick via my foot, and use the other foot and my hands to work the shovel. Off goes the head, which I tossed into the firepit, and the body got buried under the tomatoes for extra fertilizer.

You is a braver man than me, Bug, to "scoop up" a moccasin with a couple of sticks. How long a stick are you talking about?

Oh, the usual lenght was three or four feet, with a nice fork on the end. That was the important thing, the fork... I'd pin him down with that and then get to work.

age
I didn't see where the article mentioned the age of the class. If it was a younger class say 4th or under sure the teacher was wrong on an ethical standpoint but if the kids were in fifth grade or higher I would have no problem with them seeing that and learning about grisly things.

Re: age
While I find your 4th/5th grade dividing line to be pretty arbitrary, the article does say "high school."
