Sammiches!

Post by Ambush Bug »

So, here I am doing a bit of housecleaning while doing the Ol' Job Shuffle, and it comes upon my lunchtime. I have recently started eating a couple of new (to me) sandwiches, and I thought I'd share.

First, there's the 'honey butter' sandwich. JIF just came out with this new peanut butter that's got honey mixed into it. OMG tasty. No jelly required!

Second, I've taken a craving to provolone and summer sausage sandwiches, served hot, of course. Provolone between two slices of summer sausage, on bread, nuke for twenty seconds or so. Warm and just the right amount of gooey without being messy.

Anyone else got something new of the edible sort they've been trying out?

cream cheese and jelly on Roman Meal (or some other whole grain bread... I don't like white bread).
I also put eggs and sausage on toasted bread or sometimes on a bagel.

I can't think of anything else really good atm...

Nuttin' like a good Reuben. :) With REAL corned beef, of course.

And Bug, I'd sooo dig that summer sausage/provolone sammich!

Growing up, our family would plow through huge piles of bacon & tomato sammiches, on toast (usually wheat) with Miracle Whip. Nothing against the lettuce or the traditional BLT, mind you, but that's just the way we did it. We had a huge garden and grew lots of fresh tomatoes, and that's how we'd use a lot of 'em.

A plain Bagel, Creamcheese, Onion, Tomato and Lox Tastes execelent.

For added flavor toast the bagel first.

Of course if I am in a hurry there is always the Grill cheese cooked under a nice hot Iron :) (accutally never done, but I hear some people do do it)

Toasted Bagel or English Muffin, add some butter, Ham and swiss cheese. Toss in Microwave for 30 seconds, and you have a yummy sammich in about a minute. :D

OR

Wheat bread, or someother whole grain bread, fresh, peeled cucumbers, sliced and Mayo, with an optional tomato slice for some more flavor. Mmmm

1) get a whole grain bread (I prefer whole wheat for the extra fiber, italian or french rolls, or sourdough).
2) get some cheese that won't get all messy when it melts (provolone, mozzerella, swiss, etc.)
3) need some veggies (I prefer lettuce, tomato, red onion, and maybe a jalepeno or two)
4) your choice of meat; I usually go with turkey or chicken, though any sliced meat will do, and my brother actually prefers to rip a slab of beef off a cow and use that
5) layout several slices of cheese on one slice of bread
6) layout several slices of meat on the other slice of bread
* you can mix and match whatever cheeses and meats you like
7) toast the slices, open faced in a toaster oven or under your broiler. Make sure the cheese doesn't burn!
8) here is where you can get creative too; put your choice of condiments on the slices... fats (mayonnaise, oils, dressings, etc) go on the meat side, and non-fat condiments go on the cheese side. Mix and match to your liking. I prefer either mayo and mustard, ranch dressing and mustard, dijon mustard only, or any combo of the ones I mentioned.
9) layer your veggies on the meat side (makes putting the other slice on a lot easier with no veggies on it)
10) put the two parts together, and cut it.

For another sandwich and some twists to the above:

toast some bread, cook an egg (over-easy or poach it), cook some bacon or ham, and get some sliced turkey or chicken. Now add some sliced avocados, cucumber, and tomato, condiments, and put it together to make a sandwich.

I was very suprised to find out how tasty a good avocado is on a turkey sandwich at subway! It must be a CA thing because I've never seen that at other subways. But that sandwich kicked ASS!
