It runs!!!!

New 'puter is up and running. 3dMarks comming soon. Runs the DOOM3 demo on Ultra details at 1280x1024x32 w/o a hiccup (didn't check FPS yet) but I got it to choke with Rome: Total War :)

4535 3dMarks... is that any good? (using old drivers ATM) averaged about 20FPS in the game demos and 2-4 on the CPU demos... :(

Is Win XP64 worth going out and buying? (Or will it be worth it soon?) I ask because I need a copy of windows (may get one with my student discount 'cause I'm going back to school...)

Next time I install Windows I'll have to create 2-3 partitions. Max size windows would recognize was 132,070 MB for a single partition. (=128GB)
Maybe I'll do another Linux install just for giggles.

WinXP 64 is good, if your hardware has 64 bit drivers out. If it doesn't, you're probably better off waiting for a while.

;)

Though you could learn the ins and outs of drivers in WinXP if you did try to work out the kinks with the drivers. ;)

I think you'll see a marked improvement in things that involve manipulating large amounts of data (loading those huge texture files in games, for example). Anything else in 32 bit mode will be better than the latest Athlon XPs, but won't be a huge improvement. But you're definitely on the "I've got a leg up on you" side of things compared to those (like me) that are still running 32 bit processors.

I have XP64 and have little trouble with it (as far as drivers go) Almost everything i have tried to install, did.

I would say if you have the AMD64 chip, then i cant see why you would buy anything else. Right now there isnt a boat load of software which uses 64bit exclusively, but it is the way of the future. So i would say "YES" buy it. If you dont, you will never use the 64bit of your processor. You might as well have bought a 32 bit processor if you wasnt gonna get the 64 bit OS.
