Moved out...

Come in! Have a margarita or root beer? How about some fresh trout? :)

Moved out...

Post by XMEN Diamond Katana »

First off, hello again. It's been a long time since I've posted here (I check the forums often, I just don't post much). I miss the good ol' Tribes days.

Well, I moved out and into a brand new apartment building at campus yesterday. It's a nice little apartment. I share two bedrooms (two beds each), two bathrooms (each with a shower), a living room, and a kitchen (stove, oven, microwave,...everything). The brand new part is the best part. The place is very nice. Thuogh I have to use a keycard AND then punch in a four digit number to get in. :)

The first two roommates that moved in are cool, but the third I am worrying about. I went to bed early last night because I woke up at 7:00 in the morning yesterday. Well, I wake up this morning, go take a shower, put my contacts in, and come out to find a beer bottle, a beer can, and a Jamaica Rum bottle in the living room/kitchen. Apparently the third roommate invited two friends last night and had quite a bit of beer while watching TV. First night and he's already drinking beer?

Anyway...upon closer inspection, I find a paper bag halfway full with empty beer cans and bottles. I then opened the fridge to find it FULL of beer (and they ate one of my cheese sticks :x ). My other roommate (the one that I share a room with...there are two bedrooms) came back to the apartment quite late to find one of the beer-drinking roommate's friends passed out on the couch.

Never having touched a beer (and never wanting to), I've been trying to get a hold of the Community Advisor, as they call him, to tell him about my problem. I talked to my other roommate (the second went home after unloading), and he agreed to my talking to the CA about the beers. His only concern is that the beer-drinking roommate is going to be extremely angry when he finds out that someone went to the CA.

From the first time I saw this guy, I could easily tell that he was going to be a problem maker and that he's probably going to take me down with him. It would be easier in the long run to get rid of him. :?

Don't get me wrong...I enjoy partying like most others. It's just that I can tell that this guy is going to cause problems and that I'm probably going to be involved if I don't do anything about it now. It's a stick situation, but I've got to deal with it. :(

Ugg...the smell of beer is getting to me. :(

Anyway, classes start on the 21st, so I've got plenty of time to kill (exploring campus, mostly).

Later, dudes. 8)

Heya, Viper! Like your xdude graphic!

Not an auspicious start, I'll agree. Slopping the place up, having friends over to drink, and taking stuff that's not his all on the first day is not the way to, er, "make friends and influence people." I generally try to be understanding and give people a little slack, but with four guys rooming you'll all have to make some compromises and he sounds like a take-all-he-can-get-away-with kind of guy. You're right to talk to the CA, but you and the other roomies need to be united on this. He needs to be gone.

Sharpster... I thought you knew Viper... :) He's my brother... the one that actually competed way back when. (I'm just an honorary member... never played a single match.)

Its nice not having him around... I get to eat more, watch more TV, and all that good stuff. :P

I keep telling you, have the CA toss him out. Better just him gone than all four.

Oh, and only Viper could get lost at the University of Cincinnati. Its only 4 city blocks. :D

I've been here a while, but I don't post that much. That may be why you don't know me too well, Sharp. I used to go by "Viper" or "Vip" or sometimes even "Viperoonie."

Gambit, thanks. I made the x-dude image a while ago, it was just recently that I played with Photoshop's animation tool to make it animated. If you want the larger version of the non-animated version or anything, let me know and I can post it for you.

"Its nice not having him around... I get to eat more..."
What? You used to eat five donuts for breakfeast when I was there. You gonna' eat the whole box now that I'm gone?

"Oh, and only Viper could get lost at the University of Cincinnati. Its only 4 city blocks."
Hey now...at least I don't get stuck in bathrooms. Seriously, though. I get lost easily. Especially on a campus full of buildings that I've never been in before.

Anyway, I haven't been able to get a hold of the CA yet today (called him three or four times and knocked on his door). I'm going to send him an e-mail tonight or tomorrow about it.

As I said, though...I'm just concerned about what happens when he finds out that someone told the CA. That's all that I fear right now. :?

Hey Icedude, it's really nice seeing you again. How have you been?

Just a bit of an update:

I had a meeting today for all of the residents on my floor. I'm afraid the CA seems too relaxed on certain policies. He pretty much told everyone that attended the meeting that they can have beer, but if they are walking through the halls with it, he'll get on them.

I learned today that they deal with certain problems by calling the police. Not even the University Police (which I hear are friendlier), but the city police. I really don't want to get the police on this guy, but I do want him out. I'm going to talk with the CA hopefully tomorrow. If he can't help me much, my dad and I will be going to management and see how they deal with something like this. Hopefully we can have him relocated or something.

He's already had friends over the last two nights (with the beer out, of course) while I was already asleep. That's what scares me. I don't trust this guy, but I don't want to stay up through the morning to make sure that this guy doesn't damage anything. There's a problem with the bedroom keys are the moment. I don't want to lock the door because my roommate (the one that I share a room with) usually gets back to the apparent later than I want to stay up.

I'm hoping that my dad and I can sort this out with management or something soon because this is really stressing me out. It's been on my mind all day today and yesterday and I can't quite figure out yet how to deal with it without it getting really messy. Every night that passes, I'm afraid that there will be something broken or a beer stain or something that I'm going to have to live with for the time that I stay here.

Well... you got two options... actually, three once you get the door locks figured out....

Stay the course with the CA. Sometimes that helps. In my experience, not much (we called them RAs though). Going to the management may work against you if your CA isn't dealt with as well. He'll still be around as your CA after you go above his head to the management. He might get a little pissy and just say, "screw this guy" and let people mess with you.

The other option is to confront the roommate that's doing all the messed up stuff. The reason that it's going on like this is because he's testing that boundary that you have (just like kids do with their parents). He's just doing things and seeing that you seem to think it's okay because you haven't physically confronted him. I don't mean beat him senseless (that's something I would consider for myself only). But I mean saying something like, "Dude? WTF!??" and explaining your position. If he gives you crap, THEN talk to your CA.

If you are all roommates, then you ALL have to agree to certain rules. If you don't all establish the ground rules, then it will just get rougher. You guys all need to sit down and have a little chat. If that doesn't work, well... then you know what to do. :D

Basically, this is one of those college "life" lessons. Knowing when to confront, and when not to is a lesson learned. This is one of the opportunities to learn it. ;)
