Come in! Have a margarita or root beer? How about some fresh trout? :)

Hurricane Rita

Post by DarkKnife »

I really need that Bush Huricane Machine right now.
Well Rita is barrelling into the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to take a right turn today or tonight and head towards Houston. BTW I no longer live in Galveston I live in Houston. Galveston County (directly south of me) has annouced mandatory evacuations and all the schools and colleges are closing. Houston is battening down the hatches. Even malls are closing. Where I live I dont have to evacuate.... yet. I would probably ride out the storm if it was a catagory 2 or even a small 3. Nothing really small about three. But right at this moment it is a cat 4 and all the News agencies are acting like Houston is gonna be attacked by a big eraser. So probably tonight or tommorrow morning I'm gonna leave Houston for Lake Charles. Probably gonna be gone till Sunday. This all depends on whether Rita takes that turn. I hope itll make a shallow turn and hit lower down in Texas. Sorry to the people down there but hey your not me. Theyre saying if Rita hits at cat 4 Houston will be knocked out for the next half week, and at cat 3 till Sunday. I'll probably lose electricity for a day and dont really know whats gonna happen. I'll update yall if I go the Lake Charles. Forgive me if I dont contact yall untill I get there but I'm gonna take my computer and stuf it in a away from windows. I'm not really worried about either my apartment since it is on the second floor but rather my car because the streets here can flood. Wish me and anyone else down here luck. Oh and if everyone at 6:00 tonight can go inside and blow a breath south maybe we can cause Rita to leave Houston alone. :
See yall later.

Catagory 5 now. Theyre closeing I-10 E as of 8:00PM and I wont be able to go to Lake Charles Going to San Antonio instead. Got a relative there. Appearantly there are no open hotels for 6 hours on either 45-N or 10-W.

Hey DK,

I'm sure when you read this, you'll be danged glad you enDeD up going to San Antonio. :D

I live about two blocks away from Galveston Bay, and was in the first area called for mandantory evacuation. Headed out Wednesday night, and it took us over 14 hours just to get to the Woodlands on I-45.

Was lucky enough to find a place to stay there, and rode what little bit of the storm that hit.

Got home this afternoon, and thanked God that I still had a house. Even had power and water!!!

Oh... what took 15 hours the other day, took less than 45minutes today.

Back

Post by DarkKnife »

I'm back in Houston. To tell the truth I never left. Work required me to come in on Thursday and afterwards there was no getting out of town due to the Highways being soo jammed. No biggy now I'm kinda glad I had to work becuase otherwise I would have been in Lake Charles. Rode the storm out in my apartment Power flickered twice but that was all. Some rain, winds at the most were between 40 and 50 mph. No sweat off my back. We dodged a big one and were really lucky.
