I recently went to a class and we got to see some neat things. That's a neat plane in the background.
Note that probably most everyone looks like they're on drugs. For me at least it was because I had allergies. For some of us it was pretty severe.

Looks real
You know all the close up pictures of F-22s they never look real.
It looks like its put together with plywood with all the very sharp edges and look at the port tail It looks like someone messed up on the paint job and there are two bubble streaks. I know its the real deal and all it just looks... so.... odd.

That one had flown many times. It was in the hangar for some work. It's a test aircraft, but if I remember correctly, it's almost a full production model.
And I can't tell you any of the differences.
There's a person I used to work with who now works on that program, and she sent us some pics of one of the planes with a stuck canopy. It got locked in the closed position. With a pilot. And it was a warm day. You can't just go jerking things around either because there is an active pyro system that powers the ejection seat.
But this was the real deal. It has flown many times. And sorry, Ice, they're all one-seaters.
And I can't tell you any of the differences.

I have flown REAL simulators at a military base, an F-16 and a F-18. Thank you Porsche!
I made a carrier landing FIRST try with the F-18, it is a real trip to look out a real canopy on a 180-degree screen as you are landing. The simulator guy said he had never seen anybody do it on the first try...but then again I have been flying computer sims for years.
The F-16 joystick is VERY sensitive, I could barely push it over and the F-16 would barrel row quickly. I was amazed at how responsive it is. Then the F-18 stick between the legs was crazy, made me feel like I was in a P-51, which I have also been in. I love planes.

The force-feel on the F-16 can be changed. And it's a force, not position, the determines how far your control surfaces move. A lot of planes are like this.
Just think, Icey, you've now flown a sim that is like what the F-35 will be like. The company I used to work for did the active force-feedback flight sticks and throttles for that program. I worked on checking out their stability for use in T-38s for simulating the force-feel and dynamics of different planes. So you could train in a trainer, but be training to fly say an F-16.
