XMEN: The Last Stand

Post by XMEN Gambit »

Went to see the third X-men movie tonight. And did not like it. People were acting unlike their earlier selves, important people die (can't say who), and in general did not feel like the first two at all. IMO, they pretty well ruined the franchise with this treatment, which centers around Jean/Phoenix. Still could have been worse, though:

The special effects were really way cool. They did a great job with a Bobby vs. John fight. Juggernaut was very near perfect. I like Storm much better here than in the first two. Archangel doesn't get much screen time but is awfully impressive visually. Beast is OK.

And Stan's obligatory cameo is very early in the film. He's holding a garden hose.

One obvious reason for a difference is, of course, the change in directors. Bryan Singer left to direct Superman, and while I think the Man of Steel surely deserves a decent silver-screen revival, I really wish Singer'd finished up X-men properly.

B -

Id give it a B -. Though they do kill off several characters (or supposedly do) I think each one could be brought back. They even gave a way for the second one to do that.

Saw it...LOVED IT.

Did not like the way some of the characters ended.

HOWEVER...did any of you stay for after the credits? There is a scene involving the "man with no high level brain functions" that Dr. X talked about in the lesson with the school kids.... :)

Nope, Gambino always wants to leave before the creddies are over.

I wasn't all that enthusiastic about it myself. I had a Rocky Horror moment there when Archangel caught his dad, wanted to yell, "You're welcome, Pops." But I'm sarcastic like that.

A Movie isn't over till the last credit rolls... Need to give the people who worked on the film behind the scenes their due too. ;)

Credits

Post by The Spleen »

Nope, didn't see the credits. After two large soft drinks and a tub of popcorn, seeing the credits wasn't an option.

Great movie, excellent special effects, good story line, but I left the theater a little dissapointed. I just hate to say goodbye to the main characters in any movie series.

It's like if Indiana Jones had fallen into the chasm chasing the Holy Grail at then end of the movie. It still would have been a good show, but something essential would have been lost.

It seemed pretty clear that Magneto and Wolverine might return for a fourth movie. Any bets that the man without higher brain function might serve as a new home for a certain telepath?

*nudges Spleen* shh, but I think that's what the end-cred's scene was about.

Oh, and IMDB says McKellen and Jackman are already signed for a Magneto and a Wolverine standalone, respectively.
