IE7

Post by Spinning Hat »

IE7 has been released to the public. It's going to be pushed unto all who operate Winblows as a Critical update in the next few weeks. I decided to pre-emptorily install it on my system, because, well, I want to see how much they copied Firefox and Opera... And the similarites are there, just uglier, like you KNOW MS did this.

The clear type on my LCD in the browser looks like crap BTW, so if you've got an LCD, turn it off. And my first impression? It crashed while viewing the World of Warcraft website. It was open all of 5 minutes, and the browser crashed when I cliked the button to try and open a new tab. Go Figure, another fine product from Microsoft.

Also- You must validate your copy of windows before it will let you install IE7. So, either change your CD key, or I hope you have a valid Corporate or volume key.. LOL!

Overall, it's just another browser. I figure I'll use it for a bit, and try to get a really good feel for it, but I'm not impressed, but FF and Opera users will feel oddly at home in IE7...

I've been using all the Beta's and have no trouble with it, and no crashes. I enjoy ClearType on my LCD's. I've installed this copy of Windows XP at least a dozen times, as long as you call and activate you will have no problems validating.

Firefox/Opera sucks :!: And if I recall, there were tab shells for IE before FF or Opera had tabs, those browsers copied the independent programmers :p

That's what drives innovation in the open source world, Gryph. You see so-and-so did it this way, but you see how you can tweak it and make it better. And then the next guy (or gal) wants to improve on your improvements, and so on.

MS, while happy to use others' ideas, wants to patent the browser, the tab, the mouse-click, and the period at the end of this sentence so no one else can build off them. At least not without royalties.

I like FF, and it's all I use. Cleartype looks like crap for some reason on my system, so I have to turn it off. If you try to open multiple tabs in quick succession in IE7, it will crash. When I'm browsing a news site with multiple links, I will open them in new tabs while I read the article, then peruse the linkesd sites after.

I haven't used it enough to really make adecision whether I like it or not yet, but as long as it displays web pages, and is secure, I'll use it.

Well that wasn't my point about who did what first or who is trying to patent it. My point was the FF camp usually says IE7 copied their tab idea as one of their defensive points when it wasn't even their idea to begin with, or even implemented by FF first.

The way SH opens tabs in the background is exactly how I browse all the time, and especially when I'm developing. I just held down ctrl and hit T about 2 dozen times as fast as I could and all the tabs opened just fine. Also just opened about a dozen in quick succession by wheel clicking all my bookmarks on my homepage, all opened ok.

I'm not part of any camp. I like to use what works. IE just doesn't work for me.
