I know that BF2142 has a requirement for XP. But I didn't know that the EA downloader did too. I can play bf just fin under win2k. But the other is just BS!

Damn! I am so irritated right now, I don't know that I'll go to sleep anytime soon!

There should be a way to dl a hardcopy of the patch.

I can get the patch just fine. It's installed. The problem is that you can't join servers that aren't your "version". That's because the current "version" has the EA downloader installed.

I don't have Win XP, and I'm seriously considering returning the game because of that. I don't want to spend the 130 or whatever it is for just the upgrade.

You can't return software once it's been opened... You can only exchange it if it's defective...

The requirements on the box say "OS: Windows XP with admin rights." So there's probably no official way around it. So, it looks like you can upgrade or attempt to return the game. If returning the game doesn't work, take it up with EA. If that doesn't work, take it up with eBay.

Yeah, it's a crock, but looks like that's where you are.

It's entirely possible, though, that you might be soon able to play it under Cedega on Linux. Wouldn't that be ironic.
