Done with SmartFTP

Post by XMEN Gambit »

<rant target="SmartFTP">

I've been recommending SmartFTP for years. Really a great FTP client. Well, in their free version, they automatically check to see if there are updates, and DON'T LET YOU RUN your old version if a newer one is present. You either buy the license or upgrade to the latest free client. Didn't used to be that way, but now it's mandatory. I'd put up with it and did that once or twice before, but this time the installation of the new version didn't work quite right. The messed up install may or may not be their fault, but because of their enforced nag the upshot is that I couldn't run the program, at all. Kinda ticked me off. So now I've uninstalled all versions of SmartFTP and started looking for a replacement. I'm currently using a java-based one called CrossFTP.

I use CuteFTP. It's worked well for me for nearly 10 years.

I've been using WiseFTP, and the FTP client in Firefox too. Both seem OK to me.
