Hi-Rez Studios CEO Erez Goren announced today that the company is the "proud new owner of the Tribes franchise." The company now has two teams in the studio, one devoted to Tribes Universe, which is expected to enter alpha testing at the beginning of 2011.
I was wondering who the heck Hi-Rez studios was. Then I followed the link and learned it is the company that brought us Global Agenda. Since I've not played it I can't pass judgment on their coding, but their marketing department does know how to get the word out.
I do remember that there were quite a few T1 players with names like "snake", "sniper", "iceman". Would be nice to pick out just one.
I'm hoping that they do a good job with it. I'd like to be as excited about getting a tribes game on the first day, as I was with T2. No game has really delivered that for me.
Remembering buying Tribes 2 really brought home how much I miss playing the game we all played years ago. Tribes:Universe could breathe life back into the franchise.
Hi-Rez Studios announced last year that it's doing something massive with the Tribes IP. It just revealed a much smaller-scale project as well. Tribes: Ascend is an Unreal Engine 3-based, multiplayer-only, downloadable Tribes game heading to XBLA and PC in 2011.
