hahahaha.... any tips on mixing Destructive magic with swordplay? I usually use my magic first, then switch to my shortsword, but rarely do I hit anything... I'm trying to complete the cave sidequest in the first town, but keep gettin killed my the knife thrower.

Why Do I Always Die?!?!?!?!

I'd advise you to skip that cave. Most starting characters can't deal with it and the only cool thing in there is a ring that's really hard to find and it's designed for thieves. It's in the rat's nest by the mushrooms. There is skooma and moonsugar in there which can be worth a lot of money (500 per skooma bottle and 50 per moonsugar but it's very light) but some people will refuse to barter with you if it is in your inventory. I usually sell those at the mages guild.

Magic and swordplay? I'd try range spells that deal damage over time instead of all at once since you're going to be slashing at them anyway. You'll deal damage as you close the distance and it will allow you to get more hits. As your sword ability increases you will hit more often. Personally though I find that one will dominate and eventually I won't use the other.

My biggest tip would be to create a stash of excess equipment in one of the towns. It won't do you much good now but when you find heavy valuable stuff later you won't want to get rid of it. No one will steal your stuff and if you find heavy things that you don't want to carry around you can just leave them there. Put lighter things in crates and cabnets and heavier things on the ground. I usually Balmora because it's easy to get to and from there.

I'm bored. Does it show?
<img src="http://www.rit.edu/~mbt1074/Angel%20Sig ... "0">
We are right, praying metal tonight. Mages are tough to start with - because it takes time to build a good repertoire of spells.

I use a Nordic character because I like their stats. I can get a 55 point beginning HP with 60 pts of magic to start. I use Destruction/Restoration/Illusion

Mixed with Heavy Armor/Long Blade/Alchemy

Notice that there are two slots open in each section. Use whatever you like there: Enchant/Axe or something it doesn't really matter.

Then run by the gaurds at the bridge: Take a Left: Follow the path outside of Seyda Neen:: Some poor Mage will literally drop out of the sky bearing gifts. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"> Use his Sword and explore the area until you find the body of the dead Tax Collector. Read the Scroll that is on the body. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

After you avenge the Tax Collector's death, then try your hand at the Cave after buying some good equipment.

My character, being a thief by nature, prefers not to travel the great outdoors and rather prefers to skulk around the cities, chiefly Balmora. Nothing is safe in that city. Pick pocketing, shoplifting, breaking and enterting and everything else that makes being a thief so wonderful.

Since I stick to the cities I use the Mages Guild, Silt Strider (the giant flea in Scyda Neen), and Ferry service as much as possible to avoid walking.
<img src="http://www.rit.edu/~mbt1074/Angel%20Sig ... OK. Will do. I stole Fargoth's stash, and I bought a few spells, and there are more I'd like to get from sedya neen, but gettin the gold is a tough one

Why Do I Always Die?!?!?!?!

......these stories sound too good. I'm *seriously* starting to consider buying this game at the same time I pick up my NWN. Now I'm worried about geeking overload. I'll save Morrowind for SP and NWN for MP, though, maybe then I'll achieve true balance in all things nerdish.

I wasn't sure about this game until you guys started talking about the level of character customization. I love character customization. The world looks great (and huge) too. You guys still having fun with it?

Oh, and AngelFlayer's thief. I've recently started to *love* thieves. I think that's what character I'm going to start with if I get this.

OH man, the customization is the best part, (Next to the Graphics..) And there are so many side quests, you could wander around the world just doing those, and not even bother to do the larger quests. I've played for 8-10 hours so far, and I haven't even left the first town. (Sedya Neen) There are a bunch of Races, and 20 some odd classes, and you can customize your own class, and make your PC any way you want. It's great. Now, if only I could convince my wife to let me get NWN... I'd be all set.

Why Do I Always Die?!?!?!?!

10 races (approx), 30 skills with no restrictions on who can take what, beautiful graphics, 3000 NPC's, over 10 novels worth of text in the game, beautiful graphics, there is one main quest but the game itself is completely non-linear. There is so much to do! My only complaint is a lack of diversity in the enemies. I hate cliff racers. You will too.

SH, you should get out of Scyda Neen. As towns go, that's an average sized one. Balmora, Ald'Ruhn, Caldera, and Sandrith Mora all dwarf Scyda Neen in size. If you think that's impressive you should see Vivec. The entire place is bigger than the four previous cities I mention combined.

The guilds and houses are also in the larger cities. I highly recommend joining at least one, if not more. If you join one of those they will give you plenty of quests and reward you well. Your first quest, to deliver the package to some guy in Balmora, will get you into a group called the Blades. The Blades are the primary quests for the game but you don't have to ever do them. You can also join the guilds and one of the houses. Guild advancement is based on your skills levels and it's possible to join all three. You can join H'laau house in Balmora and it's good for theives. House Redorian is in Ald'Ruhn and is good for fighters. You can join House Telvanni in Sandrith Mora and they're great if you're a magic user (you get some powerful equipment). In addition you can also join the temple and the imperal cult. You can even join the Mora Tong, the assassin's guild, if you know where to find it. Hell, you can even join the Ashlanders (nomadic tribes)
<img src="http://www.rit.edu/~mbt1074/Angel%20Sig ... "0">
We are right, praying metal tonight. Ooo.. Even more to do than I thought... I am going to find the tax Collectors' body, Avenge him, then head to Balmora... I just wanted to get a feel for everything before I venture out into the wild blue yonder....

Why Do I Always Die?!?!?!?!

Good luck to you. Some quests can be as frustrating as hell. Usually the biggest problem is just finding the place. I never had the tax collector quest so I have no idea where he may be.

As you adventure through the game though, take note of anything that you find that strikes you as unusual: special named items, unusual people (and killing them) ect. I got myself into trouble in a thieves' guild quest. I had to steal a specific book. The only problem though is that I remembered seeing that book before on one of my frequent looting sprees. I had already stolen the book and, I assume, sold it somewhere, never to see it again. The game remembers where all items are even if you drop junk on the ground you will see it later. Same when sell stuff. When you are selling items it might be best to always sell them in the same town, just in case. Caldera is an exellent place to sell things. There's a scamp (looks like a goblin) in the town that will buy almost anything at full price and has 5000 gold. (If you wait 24 hours their gold will return and you can sell again)
<img src="http://www.rit.edu/~mbt1074/Angel%20Sig ... "0">
We are right, praying metal tonight. Alright, unless someone tells me within the next day a good reason NOT to buy Morrowind, I'm picking it up with NWN tomorrow and learning the Zen of Geekiness.

So what are the downsides? Be honest. What sucks, man?

<img border="0" src="http://www.xmenclan.org/avatars/t2red.g ... >
RedSirus@

Dragon Talon Mercenary > <a href=http://server2.ezboard.com/bdragontalon ... >
DTM Community > <a href=http://pub18.ezboard.com/fdtmonlinecomm ... s>RedSirus' Reviews

Brainwashed Fishmonger > Forum ...

Well, every once in a while and my head will get stuck to a billboard sign or something. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"> I just laugh, F5, and when I reload there is a brief moment where collisions are off and I get unstuck.

Sometimes the AI is REALLY stoopid! I once freaked out a mage in the caves and he just stood there casting touch spells from a distance. I cast my shock spell ranged, and just tore him to shreds.

Alas, poor Yeoric.

But this game is so beautiful... and if you don't rinse and repeat methods but actually work to level yourself up by doing the game - it IS a challenge!

I hit Balmora at level 2, after completing all the sidequests. (I currently switched out to a Female Imperial Knight - born under the Lady.) It isn't my style of playing, I like using offensive spells like Destruction and Mysticism - but I want to go through the game as a Knight - just because. I will just have to roleplay as a Knight.

And that is what this game is all about. Roleplaying.
