Bought KotOR last week on eBay. Put quite simply, this game plays like Baldur's Gate, in the Star Wars universe, from an over-the-shoulder view. Not sure what all else to say. It fulfills the promise of the Star Wars license very well. Voice acting is very good, and every line of dialog is spoken, whether in Galactic Basic or alien gibberish (including Wookiee). Graphics aren't quite all bump-mapped and overflowing, but the environments look good without being confusing. Choose skills, feats, and force powers. Meet people, make friends & enemies, watch your alignment change through actions and dialog (and with it so much else), and so on. Upgrade items at your workbench. Fly around the galaxy. Sneak around and "slice" into computers, or wade into combat with blade/blaster, it's up to you. You can't see it all the first time, so there's certainly some replay value. Plays fine on my AMD 1800 w/512 RAM and a ti4200, but it does take up 3.5 GIGAbytes of disk space. Ack. On the plus side, that's 4 CDs of Star Wars goodness to wallow in. Check your system against the requirements in any case. Definitely worth getting if you like RPGs at all or if you're a rabid StarWars fan. Adventure game fans might like it too. But make no mistake, it's not a shooter.

As I continue to play, I do have to say that the cinematics and the plot are great. They've created some moments that hail back to episodes 4-6, and some are as big or bigger than Luke-I-am-your-father-nOOOOOOOOOO! And they're built up extremely well for a game, too. You'll find gee-whiz discovery, tension, relief, disappointment, thrilling victories, hair-breadth escapes, hare-brained escapades, shocking revelations, grief, and lots more. And it gets pretty wild when you have a party of jedi, and there are jedi you're fighting, and soldiers standing around firing blasters at either or both groups. Multicolored lightsabers flashing around and deflecting multicolored blaster bolts while defending/attacking, and all the sounds are right, too. Whee! And it's not a click-fest. If you want, you can see behind the scenes it says stuff like "Dan Winree attacks with a 20 - critical hit!" and the like. Have I sold you yet? I get a commission... (j/k)

Simply put, one of my all time favorite RPGs. The story plays out like a movie. It's like being involved in the galactic battle. I love it. That said, I defeated it both with a Light Jedi and with a Dark Jedi. @#%$, the game is awesome.

Finished light, now playing dark. And a female. Both provide some different options. And there are a LOT of ways to be mean & nasty in this game! Changes the way you look, too. (You go greyish, etc.)

Ah, I paid $25+$6 for KotR, which was better than most places I could find it. Depending on the game and how long it's been out, you'll find better or worse deals. You need to pay attention to what's important to you. For example, a used game is going to be cheaper than a new one. Ok, so if it's used, do you care about the condition or existence of the manual and box? If you do, you'll pay more than if you don't. Some games don't need the manual, so a simple CD may be all you care about. You need to watch out for illegitimate copies. Be careful of stuff coming from other countries. See if the seller mentions the condition of the CD (don't want one all scratched up, probably). Is it a good way to buy games? Sometimes. Just need to know what to look for, I guess.

After a billion years of owning this game, I finally spent the time and beat it.

Great game, and I really enjoyed the experience. My first time through, I went as a goody two shoes Tank. He was stupid and uncharismatic, but wise. Basically I outfitted him as a combat medic. He had heavy armor, and used only those powers that weren't armor restricted. So he was extremely straight forward.

I gave him level 3 implants, and he was using a +4 constitution implant at the end of the game. Dude had 320 hitpoints.. LOL

So, yeah, Mr. Indestructable is a fun class to play, but I am going to enjoy seeing the game play out as a female Sith.

I think I will wait to play KOTOR2 until I see the Sith ending.
